No More Wyze Cams

Wyze Eufy

I have been running two parallel security camera setups in my house. I originally started with Wyze cameras, but I began exploring other DIY camera brands after Wyze had a series of outages. I tried both Yi and Eufy, and I started expanded my camera coverage with Eufy cameras. I had a few locations that were covered with both a Wyze and a Eufy camera for comparison.

I have recently moved into a new house, and my camera coverage needs have changed quite a bit. I need to buy some new cameras. After looking at both the Wyze and Eufy models, I decided to go with the Eufy cameras. I really did not want to pick up a monthly subscription fee for new cameras. I purchased the S330 doorbell camera and the S220 solar camara from Amazon. The hardest part of the install was trying to figure out the wiring to disable the existing doorbell chime. I have been fairly impressed with the doorbell camera so far. The solar camera has been very stable for the last few weeks. I have not had the solar camera long enough to see what long term battery usage looks like. My only gripe so far about the Eufy setup is that the app startup is a little slow and does not automatically refresh with a current snap from the cameras.

I did not discard the old Wyze cameras though. I have reflashed two of them with Thingino firmware, and I have been tinkering with them for side projects. Thingino removes the cameras from the Wyze ecosystem and gives me a way to directly manage the cameras. I am looking into various open source tools to do this.
